WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WEBSITE?

These four tips can ensure that your website will be a hit, not just at launch-time, but for years to come...

  1. Involvement
Whether you do it yourself or hire someone else to do it - someone should be actively involved with your website. Check it frequently. Find out how much activity your site is getting. Make changes to it, add new stuff to encourage folx to come back often, such as useful tips and tricks for your industry that you can update periodically. Don't just let your site lay there like a dead dog.

  2. Interactivity
People love to interact, contribute, take something away with them. Give them some valuable industry information, for instance. Some other effective tools: contests, puzzles, sign-up for a free give-away or demo, an interactive discussion forum, question and answer bulletin boards, a suggestion box.... these are just a few ways to make your site a dynamic, interactive place that will encourage visitors.

  3. Information
A great looking site, filled with all the latest bells and whistles is wonderful entertainment. But remember, some web surfers still use text based browsers, or surf with images turned off. Why? Because they're looking for content. To use an old analogy, many sites offer dessert, but no substance, no nutrition. Successful sites offer both the nutritious meal, and the treats.

  4. Marketing
You need to have some kind of ongoing marketing plan to ensure that traffic keeps flowing to your website. And you need to take advantage of both traditional "offline" marketing strategies and internet marketing. Thorough marketing is the key to bringing visitors to your site!
